The Contractor Has the Most Power | Not the Insurance Adjuster

Am I against public adjusters, or attorneys or the appraisal process? I'm really not. It's just that I think that contractors should exhaust all options that are available already in the contractor lane. I believe that the contractor has the most power; not the insurance adjuster, or the attorney or the appraiser. It's the contractor. Please let me know what your thoughts are below. To get tick...

Insurance Claim Supplement Advice For State Farm
Hey Chad info explained very well. Some ICs are not paying for the drip edge on the eaves since it is not damaged, just paying for the racks. Have you had any luck overcoming this issue.
Building codes require the replacement because they are already damaged due to how they were installed. It already has holes in it. The codes says that “all flashings, outlets, EDGING, drains and other similar devices that are a part of the (roof) assembly SHALL be replaced where rusted, damaged or deteriorated.” Don’t expect them to know this or understand it when you show it to them because as a whole adjusters don’t understand building codes and how they should be applied. You just have to keep educating them humbly and respectfully. Thanks for watching and for the awesome question! 🙏🙌💖👊😉
Do you offer Estimate Writing Services For Insurance Paid Roof Replacement Projects?
Not anymore unfortunately. I’m out of that side of the business. I appreciate the question though. Thanks for watching! 🙏🙌👊😉

Hey @chadmichael8265 great content. Quick question, if I as the homeowner am asked by the adjuster to provide the .esx file for the Supplemental Estimate (they paid their first claim aka "undisputed payment", then I actually got bids from subs for the work, then gave those bids to someone who has Xactimate to make me a Supplemental Estimate, and I gave that to the claim adjuster) what would they want the file for? I know it's so they don't have to start from scratch, but I've got a house fire and I'm looking to reach my coverage limits (their undisputed payment was $230,000 and my limit is $300,000) which we're not far from. So are they likely just looking to put their letterhead on it, or are they looking to really chop a bunch off this Supplemental Estimate? (If I hit my limits for Dwelling, O&L, Debris Removal, etc then I'm up around $380,000 which I'll need every penny of to rebuild the new house). My Supplemental Estimate came in at $480,000. I know that's a lot but I'm really trying to figure out what they're doing by asking for this.
I've heard an insurance claim that claimed to not pay for any storm damages since they were excluded in the policy. Once this was communicated from the Contractor the insurance quickly approved the additional storm damages.
Awesome man. Thanks for adding that to the conversation. It’s always great to learn from other experiences that contractors are having. Much appreciate and thanks for watching! 🙏🙌💪👊😉
Is there an inspection and documentation training?
Yes sir! IESCertified.com
where are the photos so that we can follow alone with what you are teaching?
I did start to include those in the later episodes. There are 10 total episodes on that series. This was the very first. Thanks for watching! 🙏👊😉
Chad this was great. I’m a homeowner in Colorado who had a house fire and the insurance company’s initial estimate wanted me to just replace everything but with the code requirements and everything I’m going to have to end up replacing the foundation and starting everything from scratch. So I got bids, built a xactimate estimate and now submitted that to max out my coverage limits and get this done properly. This episode and a few others from you have taught me a ton! I’d love to be a case study of you ever wanted one from a homeowner who did this on their own
Thanks so much for watching and for that awesome comment. So sorry to hear about the fire. Keep your head up and continue working hard. Much love! 💖🙌🙏👊😉
Chad, or anyone who is a claims expert, what’s the situation when the building codes require you to demo the house and replace the foundation. Does that foundation fall under the Law and Ordinance but then the rebuild falls under Dwelling coverage? Homeowner with house fire that consumed 80% of 2nd story and 45% of main floor. I can add more context if needed.
Hey Chad, great videos man! I have a question. How do you handle a situation where a client wants to make upgrades or changes to the scope? For example, adjuster approved the replacement of all the continuous flooring throughout the main floor and the client decided to put a transition strip and just do one room. She then wants to use the money that would’ve gone to replacing all of the floors to doing something else like adding cabinets and extending her countertop space. Is this type of activity allowed? Every insurance claim job I’ve had the client requests improvements and changes to the scope. I’m in the Portland OR metro area and most of our insurance claims we get are due to pipes freezing and busting causing interior damage to kitchens and bathroom.
“Wind driven rain “ “ we don’t cover that sorry”
🤣🤣🤣
Adjuster here: You are the contractor I always want to work with. Sure, you're trying to maximize as much profit and benefit to your company as possible, but who wouldn't. I always try to give contractors as much as I can. But he's right on the small stuff - waste factor, ridge and starter, etc.. - there has to be a give and take. Usually, if I have to deny the smaller stuff because of the carrier I work for, I go back to the original inspection conducted by the carrier and find items that were missed to hopefully make up for the item(s) I had to deny due to carrier guidelines.
Thanks a million for the awesome comment brother. You are also the kind of adjuster I would prefer to work with every time. The property owner needs you my friends. It’s all worth it. Keep going. Thanks again! 🙏🙌💖👊😉
Insurance adjuster here: I saw another video or two of yours. I respect your approach and the quality of your content. You definitely have integrity. I appreciate your work!

New Chad videos, yessss
Thanks for watching, brother! 🙏🙌💖👊😉
where can i find the code for decking needing to be upgrade to code from 1/2 to 5/8?
It depends on where the job is located (city and state) and whether or not it is residential or commercial. If you comment back that information I will tell you exactly where you can find it. It isn’t the same for all locations. Thanks for watching. 🙏🙌👊😉
@@InsuranceRestorationTraining what would the code be for Thomasville North Carolina?
@josemzds 2018 International Residential Code IRC (for residential jobs), the 2018 International Building Code IBC (for commercial jobs) and the 2018 International Energy Conservation Code IECC (for both residential and commercial). For roofing you will want to look in Chapter 9 (Roof Assemblies) in the IRC for residential jobs and Chapter 15 for commercial jobs in the IBC. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching and for the question. 🙏🙌👊😉

As a relatively recent staff adjuster for a major carrier I always try to meet the contractor when possible . The idea is to write it correctly , fast and get it paid. I tell the insured they are the contractor and they get to pick who to use. It’s their money their home their responsibility . Supplements and depreciation explained. Where I work I handle the claim incl supplements . So it’s a bit of better experience for the customer herder for me. Point being if we have coverage try to get it all in the first pass. If the loss exceeds 25-30 k it needs more intensive handling and a large loss adjuster whose claim volume is lower .
This is awesome insight and I’m so grateful to you for writing it. You sound like a great adjuster. I appreciate you taking care of your policyholders and trying to get it right the first time. Keep working hard. It’s all worth it. 🙏🙌💖👊😉
I’m an adjuster for a large carrier who has watched your videos the last year. I have zero problem calling the code office in the local area and just saying I’m working on an estimate, the contractor says XYZ is required, can you confirm? If they confirm, I approve (if they have code coverage). I don’t know why so many adjusters seem to be so unreasonable and combative. That’s weird to me. I don’t want to fight with y’all either 😅.
I appreciate the comment, Jenny! I believe it will be extremely helpful for contractors to see it. Also, thank you for watching my content and for taking great care of your policyholders! Keep winning, my friend. 🙏🙌💖👊😉

Amazing video! Have you ever heard of Travelers Major Case Unit?
I THINK so… but not positive if it is the same thing as what I am remembering. Are you referring to their investigative unit? Investigating fraud, etc?
@InsuranceRestorationTraining I'm not exactly sure. A claim went from a Tech Specialist up to Major Case Unit AFTER it was found to be within the valid policy period.
@dustyrichardson7325 not sure brother. Might just be a fancy name for an escalation team. Please keep me updated. Now you have me curious. 🤨🤔

I successfully recovered over $70k for a flat roof replacement caused by ice dams and excessive snow load putting stress on the structure causing the flashing to fail and allow the homes warmer temperatures to melt the ice and snow and infiltrate the structure. Took almost the entire 2 year claim terms, but I did recover the entire amount I was fighting for. It was my personal home! I now use these experiences as a contractor to continue the battle for my clients.
That is one heck of a WIN right there, brother. Well done. Seriously. I love that. There’s no better way to serve… than when you know exactly how it feels when it’s you. Super proud of you. Keep rocking. Thanks for watching and for the awesome comment. 🙏🙌💪👊😉
The problem starts with the title. Contractors don’t settle claims. Another self proclaimed restoration guru.
I see you haven’t even watched the video. 2 things: 1) the entire video is mostly about how contractors should NEVER be involved in settling claims. And 2) I have never in my entire 24 year career EVER referred to myself as a “guru”. Attention to details matter. Thanks for the comment. It really helps the algorithm. 🙏👊😉
@@InsuranceRestorationTrainingCorrect. An Adjuster WILL NEVER settle with a contractor. Come to an agreed price… yes.
